The 20th Annual Tee up for a Child Golf Tournament is officially back on after the Anne Arundel County Court Appointed Special Advocates (AACCASA) announced the dates for 2020’s tournament.
The idea for this tournament took root in 1977 when Superior Court Judge David Soukup was pondering ways to help the neglected and abused children who appeared in his courtroom. In most of the cases, he felt that he did not know enough about each child’s individual circumstances in order to make a fair ruling. That lack of knowledge was having detrimental effects on the children.
Soukup’s solution was to train volunteers from the community on how to get to know the children. These volunteers were called Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) and they could report to Soukup on what they have learned about the children and then he could use the information to make better rulings. In total, 50 citizens signed up when the call went out.
Registration for 2020's tournament will start at 8:00 am on 13th July at the Crofton Country Club. Light breakfast and lunch will be served and there will be an award ceremony afterward. Stationery printers could be used to Print out raffle tickets for charity events. All proceeds from the tournament will go to AACCASA to help the county care for children in foster care.
AACCASA hopes to raise $50,000 with this golf tournament. The Presenting Sponsor for this year’s event is First National Bank.
