Crofton parents, as well as those throughout the county, will be interested to know that the Anne Arundel County Board of Education has passed its 2024 fiscal year (FY) capital budget.
The $198.5m budget submitted by Superintendent Mark Bedell includes funding for five major school construction projects, three of which involve Old Mill schools.
Major capital projects take up $134.4m of the budget, including, in order of priority, the following schools:
- $12.6m for West County Elementary School
- $37.3m for Old Mill Middle School – South
- $58.4m for Center of Applied Technology – North
- $11.4m for Old Mill Middle School – North
- $12.7m for Old Mill High Schools
In addition to the construction allocations, the plan also provides $37m for the renovations of building systems and $7m to address maintenance backlogs. Smaller items in the budget include $2m for upgrades related to security, $3m for roof replacements, $3.5m to make improvements to athletic stadiums, and $4m earmarked for classroom additions.
Print shops frequently work with local government agencies and departments to create handbooks for employees, as well as Booklets outlining proposed budgets.
The FY2024 capital budget is to be submitted for funding consideration to the State of Maryland. A review of the 2024 budget will be conducted by County Council and the school system’s final capital budget will be adopted for Anne Arundel County Public Schools by June 2023.
