Anne Arundel police forms new youth council

The Police Department located in Anne Arundel has announced that it is forming own Minority Youth Advisory Council.

The Council is hoping to attract the attention of students in Anne Arundel County aged from 14 to 18. The Anne Arundel County Police Department will be hosting the Council’s meetups where young people will be encouraged to have discussions with the law enforcement officers about the state of their communities. Flyer printing could be used to let people in the community know about such meetings.

The meetings will kick off with a dialogue between the police and the youths about restorative justice. Every participant will be given a chance to speak freely and air any concerns they may have about what is bothering them in the community. Every member is reminded that it is a safe space and they will be supported by the group.

The next step will be holding a more formal meeting designed to address the needs and concerns that were brought up during the dialogue session. The officers will then design programs led by the youth and based on their recommendations. The attendees are encouraged to conduct research on any particular topics they wish to discuss and bringing them up at the meetings.

Youth located in Anne Arundel county locations such as Crofton can apply to be a part of this program by submitting an application to the county’s website by November 13.
