A Crofton educator is among the four Anne Arundel County Public School (AACPS) elementary principals chosen for the 2022-2023 George Arlotto Leadership Award.
This will make the second year for the award, which was renamed in June of 2022 in honor of local educator Dr. George Arlotto, who spent 16 years with AACPS, the last eight of which were as the district's superintendent. It was Arlotto who suggested to the Education Foundation of Anne Arundel County Public Schools in 2021 the idea of an award to recognize AACPS’ outstanding principals.
The finalists are Richard Henry Lee Elementary Principal Lis Koennel, Walter S. Mills-Parole Elementary School Principal Richard Rogers, Glen Burnie Park Elementary Principal Colleen McFarland, and Crofton’s own Nantucket Elementary School Principal Alexis McKay. The winning principal will go on to be considered for the 2023 Washington Post Principal of the Year.
Chambers of commerce use awards earned by civic organizations and schools in materials they send to Print shops to promote the community they represent.
The AACPS’ Office of School Performance will announce the winner of the 2022-2023 George Arlotto Leadership Award in December. Also, sponsorships and ticket information will be available next month for the Excellence in Education Awards Ceremony at Live! Arundel Mills.
The awards ceremony, hosted by the AACPS Education Foundation, will take place on April 20, 2023 and will honor all four finalists.
