AAC budget hearing and workshop scheduled

The Ann Arundel County (AAC) Board of Education received Superintendent George Arlotto’s recommended operating and capital budgets for Fiscal Year 2023 in mid-December, and two budget hearings and a workshop have been scheduled for the public.

The budget is similar to a road map for the school system’s upcoming fiscal year, which starts on July 1, 2022. The Board has scheduled two public hearings, one on January 4, 2022 at 6 pm at Old Mill High School and the second on January 6, 2022 at Annapolis’ Parham Building in the Board Room, also at 6 pm.

Citizens groups sometimes use a flyer printing service to spread information and gather supporters.

Crofton residents wishing to attend should know that testimony at the hearing will be restricted to two minutes per person. Sign-up information for testifying has not been announced at this time.

A public workshop will be held on January 18, 2022 at 6 pm on Dr. Arlotto’s budget recommendations in the Parham Building’s Board Room.

The Board is scheduled to meet on February 16 and 17 to ensure it has time to complete work on its budget request. In February, the request will then be sent to County Executive Steuart Pittman. The County Council will take into account his proposal before adopting an operating budget that includes the allocating of funds.

AACPS’ YouTube channel and AACPS-TV will broadcast the January 6 hearing and the workshop on January 18 live.
