Well-known restaurant to open car hop and drive-in
The Kowloon, a restaurant in Saugus that serves Chinese food, will be opening a car-hop service and drive-in movie theater in its parking lot. Food-loving residents of Malden will want to take advantage of this unique dining experience.
The temporary outdoor seating will accommodate about 50 cars and 20 tables. Bobby Wong of Kowloon said there will be outdoor service of food and alcohol and a projection screen spanning 30-feet by 20-feet. This is being built in the parking lot and will show movies between four and seven nights a week. People will be able to watch a movie once the sun sets by either going outside and hearing the sound from the outdoor speakers, or staying in their cars and listening to the movie on their radios.
Print shops can be hired to print schedules of such movies that will be shown, along with menu items available for dining.
A five-piece band will also play outside. The music will be easy listening can be enjoyed by patrons while dining or getting their meals.
Anthony Cogliano, Selectmen Chairman, said the board is trying to do everything it can to help restaurants in the city. He believes the outdoor theater will be highly successful.
Hours for the car hop will be 11:00 am to midnight, seven days a week. Wong is encouraging people to purchase their tickets in advance.
