Car wash to come to Malden

Currently under construction on Main Street in Malden is Prestige Car Wash.

This location borders Melrose and is opposite Pine Banks Park, on the other side of the street. It was once the home of Pine Banks Auto until three years ago when Jim and Bob Celona, owners of the business, decided to retire after running it for 48 years. There were then plans for a location of Popeye’s Louisiana Chicken at the site until that project fell through.

Such sites often benefit from banner printing to inform residents of new businesses.

Fencing was placed around the site last August to begin the renovation of the body shop into a car wash. Prestige said that this location will bridge the gap between its two locations that are the closest to the area, one of which is on Tremont Street in Melrose and the other of which is on Broadway in Malden.

Nir, Ronen, and Joseph Drory, three brothers, founded Prestige in Taunton 20 years ago. Since then, the company has expanded rapidly and has bought out two other local car wash chains in the last year, acquiring Nice N’ Clean and Ernie’s.

Features at this new location will include free vacuum stations, an automated express drive-through tunnel, and self-service bays for washing cars for those who prefer to clean their own vehicles.

Prestige is scheduled to open before the end of the year, although no official date has been announced as yet.
