Middle school in Malden to add sixth grade

Students in the sixth grade will be able to attend the Ryken Middle School Division of Malden Catholic High School next fall. This new grade is a result of an increased demand from families and will enable students to receive a continuous education of sixth grade through the 12th at the school.

The school has a new athletic and academic building on Crystal Street in Malden in which students in the seventh and eighth grades are housed. The sixth-grade students will join them in this new building. Nearly 10 years ago, Malden Catholic purchased what was once a processing plant for Viking Seafood and converted into a space that has athletic facilities, labs for STEM, and expanded classrooms.

Designed to support both academic and athletic excellence, the building features classrooms for middle school students at Malden Catholic and dedicated labs for entrepreneurship, biomedical engineering, and robotics. New athletic facilities include the Grant Family Fitness Center, the Passacantilli Gymnasium, the Donovan Fieldhouse, and a turf field that is over 30,000 square feet.

Beginning with the new sixth grade, Malden Catholic will welcome both boys and girls through its co-divisional model. Students learn in separate, gender-based classrooms during the academic day while coming together for social events, extracurricular activities, and other aspects of campus life.

Flyer printing can be used to provide more details on such expansions and their benefits for students.
