What's Happening in Malden, MA…

Brewery in Malden holds art classes

Idle Hands Craft Ales in Malden will be hosting two Drafts and Crafts events later this month.

The first class will be Pints and Pastels. Attendees can create art with pastels while relaxing with a tasty pint. There will be many photographs to spark people’s imaginations as well as quality paper for making artwork worthy of a frame or even a greeting card.

This class will be led by Naomi Kahn who will provide tips on the use of pastels, which she considers a medium that can be taken anywhere. This class will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday September 16.

The second class will be Pints and Printmaking. This class involves linocut printing in which artists cut into a sheet of linoleum for their design, inking, and printing the area which is uncut. The class will be led by Chie Yasuda who will guide attendees in creating a design and then carving this into the linoleum. The inked and carved linoleum is then placed face down on a sheet of paper and the image that is printed is a mirror image of what has been carved into the linoleum.

No experience is necessary for either class. All materials will be provided. Such classes can benefit from flyer printing to promote them throughout a community.

The second class will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday September 30.
