New hospital to be built in Malden
A joint venture between Acadia Healthcare Company, Inc. (ACHC) and Tufts Medicine will mean the construction of a new behavioral health hospital at what was once the Malden Hospital of Massachusetts.

The new hospital will be able to accommodate 144 beds and will extend upgraded intensive outpatient and inpatient behavioral healthcare programs for those in the Boston area. The hospital will also be a teaching facility for residents and students at the Tufts University School of Medicine. The joint venture will be looking for an investment of $65m across the city.
In addition to addressing the need for more behavioral healthcare services in the Boston area, the hospital will also strengthen the presence of Acadia Healthcare in the state. A press release notes that the joint venture with Tufts is ideal as the hospitals of Tufts Medicine, which include Lawrence Memorial Hospital and Melrose/Wakefield Hospital, are well-known for delivering effective inpatient behavioral healthcare to the communities they serve.
This is the 17th partnership Acadia Healthcare has undertaken in total, and the first one since the beginning of this year. The company is planning additional joint venture projects, with this year expected to the strongest one yet for the company.
