New cohousing community to be built in Malden
Construction on a cohousing community of 30 condominium units is currently underway near Malden Square.
The group sponsoring the project, Bay State Commons, said that the building will be three stories high and will blend expanded common spaces with private living spaces to encourage greater interaction among residents. The residences will range from studios to three-bedroom units. Brochure printing is often used for such projects to offer more details on floor plans and to provide three-dimensional renderings.
Bay State Commons is the developer of the property and Neshamkin French of French/2D was hired to be the architect. One of the features of the building is that it will be energy efficient.
Some of the expanded common spaces will include indoor and outdoor play areas for children, an exercise room, workshop, and shared music and art rooms. There will also be a great room where people can gather and where social events and meetings can take place. A courtyard with green space will enable people to garden and enjoy outdoor activities. A large kitchen will enable residents to cook food for dinners, potluck meals, and group brunches.
As a cohousing community, there will be common meals, served on a regular basis. It is also expected that holiday traditions, game and movie nights, and other clubs will arise.
The complex is scheduled to be completed by the fall of next year.
