Malden to get into shape
Health club and gym Planet Fitness will be opening a new set up in the Fellsway Plaza in Medford, a city just west of Malden, at the end of this month.
The facility in Medford is 20,000 square feet in size and will have locker rooms and showers, more than 100 cardio machines, a selection of 60-inch flat screen televisions, massage chairs, and its own HydroMassage beds and tanning booths.
Planet Fitness aims to create a hassle-free and non-intimidating location for exercise, and has its own system that reminds people not to make loud noises, drop weights, or judge others. Members of the gym can also get small group fitness instruction with a certified trainer, as well as 12-minute and 30-minute programs for abdominal muscles and full-body workouts respectively.
Once up and running, it will be open 24 hours a day beginning Monday at 12:00 am until Friday at 9:00 pm, and on weekends from 7:00 am until 7:00 pm.
A grand opening celebration open to the public is scheduled for Monday, January 26, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Among those in attendance will be Mayor Michael J. McGlynn cut the ribbon, along with Kiss 108, which will be broadcasting from the club and giving out prizes. The event will be catered by Not Your Average Joe’s. No doubt the club is preparing banner printing to create signs announcing the grand opening.
