Malden starts grant program for community engagement

A new grant program has been launched by the city of Malden that will bring people together through community celebration and events, community care, and shared spaces.

The Malden Community Connections grant program will award funds each year to community, grassroots, and non-profit organizations in Malden. Initiatives designed to foster strengthening and community bonds among residents will be supported with these funds. These initiatives can be physical improvements that enhance shared spaces, public art projects celebrating the unique culture and character of the city, and activities that fulfill the needs of the community that cannot be funded through other sources.

Local print shops can help spread the word about such grants and their purpose with flyers, mailers, and other printing services.

The Surrounding Community Agreement with Encore Boston Harbor will be funding these grants. The grant program will be administered through the Office of Strategic Planning and Community Development of the city and will recommend potential awards to the local mayor. It is anticipated that the city will award up to $200,000 a year for a few years.

The application period for these grants is now open with all applications due by Monday June 30. Funding decisions will be made by Friday August 1 at which time applicants will be notified if they have received a grant.
