Malden resident becomes candidate for prestigious program

Quynh-An Vo, a resident of Malden and senior at Mystic Valley Regional Charter School (MVRCS), is a candidate for the United States Presidential Scholars Program.

Such an honor can be made known throughout the community with poster printing services.

Established in 1964 by President Lyndon Johnson, the program honors and recognizes the most distinguished high school seniors across the country. These students are invited to apply to the program, with up to 161 scholars selected each year. Scholars receive a trip to Washington, D.C. in June, with all expenses paid. At that time, they are honored for their accomplishments and meet with educators, officials from the government, and other accomplished individuals. There is a ceremony at the White House where they will receive the Presidential Scholars Medallion.

Vo is a candidate for the IB Diploma. She is a member of the school’s 1500 Society which recognizes those who excel on the SAT and is one of five students to get a score greater than 34 on her ACT. Vo is hoping to become a semifinalist for the Presidential Scholars Program.

Matthew Stone, assistant director at MVRCS, said that Vo not only has many achievements in the classroom, but has contributed much to the community, noting that she always wants to expand her horizons and try out new experiences.
