Malden recognized for collaboration in the community
The SCI Connect for Community Impact Award has been given to Gary Christenson, mayor of Malden, by Eastern Bank in connection with the Connect & Inspire Series of SCI Social Capital, Inc.
This award is presented every year in recognition of a community that collaborates effectively among all sectors to foster a healthy and vibrant community for every resident.

Bob Rivers, CEO of Eastern Bank, nominated the city to receive this award. Rivers said that since 2012 when Christenson became mayor, he has created a vibrant downtown area and developed an inclusive economy with effective collaboration across various sectors. He added that Christenson is always looking for ways to connect people in his diverse community.
SCI is a non-profit organization whose mission is to increase the social capital of a community and that of its individuals. The organization defines the concept of social capital as the importance of social networks and the value of trust in communities and relationships.
