Holiday parade and tree lighting returns to Malden

The annual Parade of Holiday Traditions is coming to Malden for the 12th consecutive year later this month.

The parade will start at the Salemwood School, travel through several streets in town to Main Street, and then end at City Hall Plaza. Here, there will be hot chocolate, coffee, and holiday music while people wait for the lighting of the Christmas tree later in the afternoon.

City Hall will be open and people can warm up and view the wreaths made by the children in each of the schools. Voting for their favorite wreath by attendees will be held, and the art department of the winning school will receive a $250 prize.

Santa Claus will also be making a special visit, and the grand marshal for the parade will be Dana Brown, the outgoing principal of Malden High School. Mayor Gary Christenson commented that Brown is most deserving of this honor as he has contributed a great to the community, the high school, and the students and has also emceed this parade for many years.

The parade will be held on November 28 beginning at 2:00 pm, with the tree lighting to begin at 4:00 pm. Holiday cards may be sent out by the City to remind the community of the parade and to partake in the holiday festivities.
