Funding awarded to Malden education partnership
The Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has awarded a grant of $100,000 to the new Early College program partnership between Bunker Hill Community College and Malden High School.
News of such funding is often made known throughout a school district and the entire community with poster printing.
Students in this program are able to take college courses and earn credit for free before they graduate from high school. Students in the Early College program can get started on their college education, which contributes to higher completion and enrollment rates, particularly for those students who are first-generation, minority, and low income. The grant will help to build this Early College program.
State Senator Jason Lewis expressed his excitement about being able to support Malden High School in their partnership with Bunker Hill Community College. He added that there are many key benefits of this program that will enable more graduates of Malden High School to advance to higher education.
State Representative Steve Ultrino said that he is an educator, so understands the importance of preparing students for careers in the future and offering them opportunities to ensure their success. He added that partnerships like this one will afford them chances for college that they may not have had before, and that this will be valuable to many students from Malden.
