Creative activities to light up library
Two special events are coming to the Malden Public Library this month. The Library may be using flyer printing companies to help it create flyers and mailers to send out to the community about these events.
A workshop on Math and the Magic of Origami will be presented by James Hollis, an origami enthusiast. He will show attendees how to create several models. Funding by the Friends of the Malden Public Library has made the materials and instructions possible at no charge. Attendees are only asked to bring a ruler and a pair of scissors and register ahead of time. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, April 15 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
Gregory John Maichack, an award-winning pastel artist, will be presenting a hands-on workshop for adults on how to paint with pastels like Georgia O’Keeffe. It is open to a range of skill levels, from beginner to experienced artists.
The focus of the workshop will be on the famous poppy paintings of O’Keeffe, and Maichack’s pastel versions of them. Attendees will work along with Maichack and use the same techniques as those of O’Keeffe, while learning the basics of painting with pastels. The Massachusetts Cultural Council is sponsoring this workshop, so it is free and attendees can take home their paintings.
The workshop will be on Wednesday April 29 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
