Special performance classes planned in Fall River

The Church of the Holy Spirit in Fall River will be offering a new low-cost program in the performing arts geared towards children who would not otherwise be able to afford such activities.

Bill Lacey, the creative director for Starmaker and Co., will be launching choir and dance lessons for children in third through eighth grades. A parishioner of the church, Lacey is a retired music educator with 37 years of experience.

There will be two parts to the lessons. The first will be a choir of both dancing and singing with meetings two nights a week, while the other will be a dance group that will meet one night a week. Anyone in the area of the parish and the town surrounding Fall River are welcome to attend. Poster printing is often used in such surroundings to promote such special programs.

The cost for the programs is $100 for three children or fewer in the same family for the fall and holiday season, and will be $200 for the season that starts in the spring. This cost includes all costumes needed for the program and admission to the performances.

The church has spent $50,000 from its endowment to renovate its auditorium and a space upstairs that was recently home to a thrift shop. This is where the children will rehearse and perform.

Lacey will be launching these programs this month.
