Bids are being welcomed by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation for transforming a property along the waterfront into a development.
Mass DOT completed the Route 79/Davol Street Corridor Improvements Project over the summer. This has created a parcel of grassy land spanning 20 acres in the median between the southbound and northbound lanes. This project is also next to the new Fall River Depot of the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority. The depot connects the area to other parts of the Commonwealth including Boston as well as parts of Rhode Island.
The goal of the project is to create a mixed-use district of commercial space and housing units with access to this new train station. The site is one of the largest waterfront redevelopment projects in New England, and is right next to commuter rail.
Mass DOT is seeking bidders who have competence in legal and organizational areas, as well as financial experience. Those who bid need to be able to create a large project that is transit oriented with mixed-use commercial space, over 1,400 units for housing, and amenities for the public such as venues for entertainments. Between one to three developers will be able to work on the project.
News of such requests for proposals can be disseminated throughout a city and neighboring communities with flyer printing.
Bids are due by Wednesday, October 21.
