The first round of winners of mini grants for the Love Your Block program in Fall River has been announced.
The Love Your Block program brings together residents and city leaders to strengthen neighborhoods one block at a time. The four selected projects highlight a shared commitment to community pride, neighborhood beautification, and civic engagement, which will help families, increase neighborhood stability, and expand recreational opportunities for all residents.
One of the grants was awarded to the Flint Neighborhood Association. It will establish a new memorial to veterans at the Alden Street entrance of Father Travassos Park. Featured will be a flagpole and benches to create a welcoming space to honor those who have severed and for reflection.
Fall River Youth Marines received another one of the grants. The garden at Father Travassos Park will be expanded into a classroom outdoors with shared tools, a compost bin, accessible beds, and educational signage.
YEAH! Corps will receive funds for two projects that will brighten Father Travassos Park and the Flint neighborhood. A mural on the hockey rink, benches, and an asphalt mural will be added to the park to brighten it up and add much needed gathering spaces. A public art mural will be installed on Pleasant Street to help boost local businesses.
Banner printing can be used at the sites of such projects to inform residents of their scope and benefits for the community.
