College in Fall River to present classic comedy

Professional artists, students, and performers from the community will form part of the upcoming production of “Tartuffe,” a comedy by Moliere at Bristol Community College (BCC) in Fall River.

“Tartuffe” is a timeless satire and, although initially banned from public performance due to its controversial subject matter, the final revised version by Moliere is considered one of the great works of social satire and Western comedy.

BCC contains a liberal arts and sciences program that offers an Associate in Arts degree and provides hands-on experience and training, such that students can learn and refine their craft as they perform. After graduation, students can seek work in the performing arts sector or transfer to a four-year college.

This will be a special hybrid production that exemplifies the commitment of the Bristol Theatre program to collaboration, experiential learning, and community engagement. This show offers an exceptional experience in the theater as well as a model of practice-based education by bringing together students and performers from the community with seasoned professionals. Such unique performances can be promoted throughout a college campus and neighboring communities with poster printing.

Performances will take place from Thursday, April 9 through Saturday, April 12 and Thursday, April 16 through Saturday, April 18 at 7:00 p.m. in the Jackson Arts Center on the campus of BCC in Fall River. Ticket prices are “pay as you wish” with a suggested price of $20 per ticket.
