Creative Arts Network Inc. (CAN), which is based in Fall River, is planning to expand into Rhode Island.
CAN is a non-profit organization and will launch new cultural initiatives, focusing on sponsoring creative projects and building partnerships in the state. The executive director of CAN, Sandra Dennis, said that the organization is committed to Fall River and it will continue its work in the city, but she expressed her excitement and pride about starting this parallel effort.
Such news is often disseminated throughout a city and region with flyer printing.
David Dennis and Sandra Dennis founded the organization in 2014, and it was the first organization in the city dedicated to culture, tourism, and the arts. The establishment of the Fall River Waterfront Cultural District was a direct result of the effort of CAN, which has managed the district for the past five years.
A wide range of events are hosted by CAN, which include art exhibits, festivals, walking tours, concerts, cooking demonstrations, lectures, and fashion shows. The emphasis of CAN is on multicultural programming and historical tourism that provides a platform for artists to show their work. Past events have included a marketplace for artisan crafts and jewelry, and a reading of the anti-slavery speech of Frederick Douglass that featured a film about the Underground Railroad.
