New rail service to be made available to Fall River

The MBTA has announced that there will soon be a commuter rail service to Fall River and New Bedford.

This will be the first time in 65 years that passenger trains to and from Boston will be making stops in Fall River, New Bedford, Freetown, and Taunton.

The Fall River Commuter Rail Line will have 15 trips, and the New Bedford Commuter Rail Line will have 17 trips. This will mean there will 32 trips in total between the East Taunton station, which has recently been constructed, and South Station on weekdays with trains running every 70 minutes. On weekends, there will be 26 trips between the two stations and trains will run every two hours. There will also be service for South Coast Rail stations on weeknights and weekends outbound from Boston. The last train will leave South Station just before midnight.

The cost of a one-way ride to the new South Cost Rail stations will be $12.25, or $6 for a reduced fare for those who qualify.

Brochure printing can be used to provide more details about fares and schedules for such new rail services.

This service will start on Monday, March 24. To celebrate this new service, there will be free trips on weekends from Saturday, March 29 through Sunday, April 27, as well as free parking from Monday, March 24 through Wednesday, April 30.
