Somerset recently held its first town celebration on the newly renovated and lit the town green. No doubt those from nearby Fall River were in attendance for this special event.
The Somerset Middle School Band, led by instructor Tina Rausch, played many favorites of the holiday season, while those from the chorus at the Middle School entertained crowds in front of the store, Sweet As Pie, and handed out hot mini apple pies. Thick chocolate chip, oatmeal raisin, double chocolate, and macadamia cookies were passed by volunteer students out to visitors in front of Subway.
Attendees were greeted by an ice blue North Pole sign and a giant snowman with a top hat. Other festive touches included the gazebo lit with white lights, blow-up reindeer, and Santa in a luxurious chair, ready to listen to Christmas wishes from the children.
Also at the celebrations was the Lions Club booth, decorated with three-foot-tall multicolored candy canes. Members of the club were selling memory canes, which were red ribbons on which people could write the name of a loved one and leave them at the green for decoration, or take them home. Proceeds of the sales went to town charities.
Festive Banners were most likely displayed on the gazebo and around the green, adding to the celebrations of the inaugural evening.
