Fall River foundation holds annual scholarship event

At the Fall River Scholarship Foundation Awards Night, which was recently held in Westport, the guest speaker was Nicholas Christ, CEO and president of BayCoast Bank. He was also selected as Person of the Year in recognition of his advocacy of quality education for everyone in the Fall River area.

In addition, $40,000 in scholarships was given to 40 students from Fall River, which is the greatest amount the foundation has given in any year. This marked the 24th year of holding this event. The foundation was established in 1995 and students from Fall River have been given over $700,000 in scholarship money since then.

There were other major scholarships awarded during the event. Posting printing can be used throughout the community to make people aware of awards like these and the honor they bring. Handing out the scholarships were president of the foundation, James Rogers, assisted by Philip Silvia, Tom and Diane Soares, and attorney John Saulino.

The foundation was joined by two banks in awarding scholarships. Christopher Belmore and Jayda Alves each received $1,000 from BayCoast Bank, while Tiffany Vincente received the same amount from BankFive.

Other scholarships given out during the event included the Lynne Sullivan Honorary Scholarship, the Norman Phenix Honorary Scholarship, the Reverend Paul McCarrick Memorial Scholarship, and the Pauline L. Rogers Memorial Scholarship.
