Thanks to a fire control sprinkler system, a recent fire in Orland Park was brought under control before it could spread.
The fire broke out in the basement of the Lexington Health Care retirement home, starting with a coffee maker that had been placed on a shelf and spreading from there to the wall. This activated the sprinkler, which quickly extinguished the flames.
According to firefighters who arrived on the scene, this minimized the damaged caused, and all they need to do was ensure that any smoldering was put out. They pointed out that it could have been far worse if not for the overhead fire control system.
Michael Schofield, who is the Orland Fire Protection District Fire Chief, said this was an excellent example of show sprinklers can help to minimize property damage and disruption, and even save lives. He further pointed out that this is why the department features this type of fire control system in its annual open house. Brochures can be printed for events such as this that give further details about the benefits of having one, and how a home or business owner can go about getting one installed on their own property.
It is requirement for all care homes that are overseen by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to have sprinklers installed. They are also used in commercial, public, and industrial buildings, as well as retail establishments and private homes. Get a Free Quote for Brochures
