Orland Park shop hosts beneficial and creative event

A retail and workspace in Orland Park is running a class for makers in late April.

Rockler Woodworking and Hardware is a combination of a retail store and makerspace. The venue also runs classes to help interested parties discover their love of woodworking. Rockler will have educated staff around for any questions either inside or outside the event.

The store offers everything someone could need for a wood-related project, such as machinery, materials, accessories, finishes, plans, and hardware. There are also many free plans available, and demonstrations taking place at the stores.

In this workshop, students will work with a lathe, using it to turn a block of wood into a grinder they can use for pepper or salt. A drill press will also be used for fine tuning and helping to fit the internal workings. The pieces will also get a coating, which is both safe for food and durable.

The class will be one session lasting two hours, between 1:00pm and 3:00pm. The venue for the experience is the local Rockler location, on South LaGrange Road. The attendance fee is $100 per person, not including fees from booking sites like Eventbrite. Many craft-related activities and skill-based workshops are advertised with such methods as flyer printing. The lesson is on the schedule for Saturday, April 20.
