Orland Park well-represented at Chicago Marathon

Thousands of runners from all over the world competed in the 42nd Annual Bank of America Chicago Marathon, which experienced a world record turnout.

Unofficial results from the race were posted right after it finished. The results show that of the many runners who turned up for the event and made it to the finish line, 92 were people who listed Orland Park as their home town. Completing the Chicago marathon is a tough task and locals from Orland Park will be happy to see that their town was well represented.

The course was marked with banner and poster printing that went through 29 neighborhoods in Chicago. The fastest runner from Orland Park was Shannon McKevitt. She competed in the 20-25 age group and managed to complete the marathon in 3:09:03. With this time, she was able to come in 350th overall in the women’s field.

The queen of the day, however, was Brigid Kosgei from Kenya. She came in first and managed to set a new world record in the process with a time of 2:14:04 which beats the previous record of 2:15:25, which was set by the UK’s Paula Radcliffe in 2003’s London Marathon. Brigid’s new record also beats the Chicago Marathon’s course best set by Radcliffe in 2002.

Orland Park natives may not have managed to win the marathon, but they can take pride in the knowledge that they were competing with the world’s best.
