Orland Park EMS invited to enhance their airway skills

One of the tasks a first responder may be asked to perform is managing an airway that is blocked or otherwise obstructed, and it may not always be easy to know which will be the best technique to use. An Orland Park workshop will equip them with a knowledge base they can draw on in this situation, and it is being offered at no cost.

The course, which has been described by its organizers as being “fast paced”, will begin with a review of the basics of providing airway support, and will take the class all the way from there to Suction Assisted Laryngoscopy and Airway Decontamination (S.A.L.A.D.) methods, as well as video laryngoscopy. The students will have an opportunity to get hands-on experience with a simulator, and the goal is for them to leave the session confident in their ability to act in an airway emergency.

The format for the workshop will consist of a series of short lectures which will then be followed by putting the skills learned into actual practice. The event’s planners remarked that is can be useful for any level of EMS or first responder, and each of the participants will have a chance to perform intubations using the provided manikins. Stationery printers can offer a variety of materials, ranging from handouts to bound texts and large visual aids, which can help the students to get the most from a class like this.

The Orland Fire Protection District Command will be welcoming EMS personnel to this training session staring at 8:30 am on February 20. It will be taking place at 10728 West 163rd Place.
