Farm tours being offered in Orland Park

Orland Park residents who want to learn more about the area’s historic past are invited to come out to the Steellwagen Farm this fall.

Located at Louetta Lane and 109th Avenue, the property has been farmed since 1860, and was acquired in 2002 by the Orland Park Open Lands’ Program.

Tours are being offered on several dates throughout the autumn months. Hosted by the Stellwagen Family Foundation, visitors will have a chance to see the interior of the farm’s buildings, as well as to ask any questions they might have about what it was like back in the 19th Century. They will sample the experience of growing up on a working farm that used to provide the area with milk and other products.

The Open Lands program was set up back in 1995 by Mayor McLaughlin to ensure the preservation of open spaces for future generations to enjoy. So far, it has been able to protect hundreds of acres of land in Orland Park. Brochure printers can produce a variety of promotional materials that let the public now more about the program and what they can do to lend a hand to keeping it going

Those who are interested in learning more, or finding out opening dates, can get in touch with the Village of Orland Park Development Services Department at 708-403-5300.
