Oak Park is known for the number of Frank Lloyd Wright-designed homes located here, and now fans of his work, and of architecture in general, have an opportunity to visit a number of these houses.
A house walk called ‘Wright Plus 2016’ has been scheduled, bearing the subtitle of ‘Wright and the Prairie School’. The tour will take in both public buildings and private homes that were designed by Wright and those who worked directly with him in his Oak Park studio.
Wright pioneered the ‘Prairie’ style of architecture, and it is forever associated with his name. At the time he began his practice, most architects in America were working in styles derived from Europe, but Wright saw nothing wrong with houses that reflected the wide-open spaces of the American prairie. The Wright houses done in this style have strong horizontal lines that suggest the sweep of the grasslands.
The walking tour will include houses such as the Harry S. Adams House, which was Wright's final commission in Oak Park, and Wright's Home and Studio itself. The famous Robie House will also be open.
The tour is slated for May 21 from 9:00 am until 5:00 pm. Tickets are on sale now, and tour organizers might want to create Brochures featuring the homes to be toured, which they can offer for sale.
