One of Oak Park's favorite events is on the schedule for the year, but with some details still to come.
The community's Winterfest & Cookie Walk is a sweet way to start the holiday season. At this annual event, participants are treated to a variety of entertainments and musical performances suitable for all members of the family, even as they try to get a glimpse of Santa Claus. A large hospitality tent is set up on Marion Street, where cookie walkers can stop and get warm as they enjoy free coffee and hot chocolate.
Of course, cookies are at the heart of the event. For a one-time fee of $20, participants are sold a souvenir cookie tin, which will be filled with at least 25 specially-wrapped cookies handed out by participating merchants. Part of the fun of the day is visiting the various shops and businesses to see their holiday wares and pick a cookie.
Event organizers are considering the health of the community as they plan the event, and will have further announcements as details are finalized.
The Winterfest & Cookie Walk is currently scheduled for December 5, from 3.00 pm until 6.00 pm. Tins will be sold on the day of the event at the hospitality tent during these hours, and will be available only as long as supplies last, and cash payment is requested. Banner printing is often used to create festive decorations for this type of outdoor event.
