The Oak Park and River Forest (OPRF) High School will celebrate its 150th anniversary with a performance by the Jade '50s.
The OPRF Community Block Party is a community celebration that is part of the high school's 150th Anniversary Events series. The Jade '50s will provide live music entertainment at the party. There will also be several other kid-friendly activities at the school's program, such as bouncy houses and face painting. Guests can purchase food from attending food trucks. There will also be an opportunity to run on OPRF High School's new track.
The Jade '50s is a band that formed in 1973 after Joe Cantafio was asked by his history teachers to perform 1950s music as part of a week-long lesson that ended in a sock hop. The success of OPRF High School's history program helped Cantafio's group gain popularity, which led to his band getting requests to perform at other schools. Other members of the Jade '50s include Joey Giovanni, Keith Grant, and Mike Finn.
The OPRF Community Block Party will be held on Sunday, May 19th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm, and the Jade '50s will start performing at 2:00 pm. There is no cost to attend the high school's anniversary celebration, and families will not need to register in advance. Schools that put together similar programs to this may use flyer printing to advertise their celebrations to people in their communities.
