If all goes according to plan, Oak Park will soon have a new brewpub and restaurant for patrons to enjoy.
Hamburger Mary’s, which is on South Oak Park Avenue, should open its doors soon. Co-owners Jim Cozzens and Brandon Wright purchased the location about two years ago. The idea came after Cozzens, who was working at the Hamburger Mary’s location in Chicago, learned Oak Park had no breweries or brewpubs of its own.
The brewpub will serve a number of its own beers, such as the flagship brew Frank Lloyd Rye IPA. It also offers the Speakeasy Saison, the Leprechaun Zombie Dry Irish Stout, and the Mary Hoppins American Pale Ale. It is working on another beer, an imperial red that is still to be named.
Diners will be able to see the way the brewers make beer, since the brewing operation is visible through large windows that separate the dining room from the brewing tanks. In addition to serving its own beers, Hamburger Mary’s will also serve brews from other local enterprises, such as Kinslahger Brewing, which is a craft brewer on Roosevelt Road.
The co-owners expect to open Hamburger Mary’s by the end of this month. Cozzens and Wright might like to work with a flyer printing company to create handouts to distribute near the restaurant on opening day to raise interest in the opening.
