A beer chandelier is featured at Oak Park's recently opened One Lake Brewing, giving the phrase “light beer” a new meaning.
The brewery has been in the planning stages for months, and drew large crowds as soon as it opened. One Lake Brewing is located in the old First National Bank of Oak Park building, which dates back to 1920. The new owners gutted and rehabbed the bank, but kept as many original details as possible, such as the dentil molding. Photos depicting history decorate the walls, mingling with tables made of reclaimed wood and banquette seating. Promotional Products are often used to help businesses like this build brand recognition.
The brewery is also a full-service restaurant that has three levels for dining, including a rooftop area. The roof proved so popular that diners waited more than an hour to sit there, even with two other dining rooms available.
Manager Joe Yates says they have made changes to help with this situation, specifically making the rooftop a first-come, first-served spot, and taking reservations for the others. They urge patrons to enjoy the offerings from the kitchen, and save room for dessert, as Nick Stewart, who is in charge of the kitchen, is a trained pastry chef.
One Lake currently brews seven beers in-house, and serves other beers from local brewers, including Kinslahger, which is also in Oak Park. One Lake's beers are generally lower in alcohol than most, and range from a dark stout to a light ale.
