Oak Park to offer support group for teen girls

&Rise will hold a support session for teenage girls at the Dole branch of the Oak Park Public Library.

The &Rise In-Person Support Group for Teen Girls is an event where young women ages 14-19 can meet and find solidarity in a safe space. The experience is intended to help teens heal from their trauma by expressing themselves in a confidential and supportive environment. The facilitator of the session is Helen Quinn Pasin, an educator with several certifications from the Advanced Mental Health Training Institute. Pasin has completed courses related to shame and mental illness.

&Rise is an organization that wants to empower all women and help them overcome their adversities. The nonprofit group was formed by Jennifer Ramirez in 2018 to provide free counseling sessions and support groups to teenage girls. The organization also uses educational programs about the realities of abuse to remove the stigmas attached to these situations. People can help &Rise by volunteering or donating to the group.

The support sessions will begin on Tuesday, March 5th and will continue each following Tuesday. The meetings are set to take place from 6:30pm to 8:00pm. Only women are allowed to attend the support group. Organizations that hold empowering events such as this may use poster printing to make ads that help more people notice their sessions.
