A local organization will be offering a multiday bike campout in August for families who live in Oak Park.
The Blackwell Forest Preserve Family Bike Campout is an adventure where participants can get active while enjoying the area’s natural settings. The course will begin at Longfellow Park and use the Illinois Prairie Path and Great Western Trail to reach the Blackwell Forest Preserve. The route is mostly on crushed limestone paths, and the pace of the bike ride will be set at 10mph. Guests should bring camping equipment, bike locks, helmets, and changes of clothes.
The organizer for the experience is the Out Our Front Door Organization, which is an all-volunteer non-profit founded in 2014. The group will purchase and prepare meals for all participants throughout the camping trip. The organization coordinates local adventures that expose people to the beauty of the Lower Lake Michigan Basin Area. Other events from the nonprofit include Battle to the Dunes and Milwaukee: The Good Land.
The camping trip will take place from Friday, August 19 to Sunday, August 21. Tickets for those who are 17 and younger are $50, and adult tickets will cost $75. People can pay extra to help the organizer fund its future programs. Organizations that put together family trips like this can use poster printing to promote their events at libraries and recreation centers.
