The Hula School of Chicago will be organizing a concert in Oak Park to raise funds for Lahaina, Maui.
The Celebrate Aloha Concert is an event where people can support those in Maui impacted by the wildfires that occurred this year. All of the proceeds of the concert will benefit Lahaina. Guests will get to watch talented dancers perform Hawaiian chants and contemporary songs. There will also be a Hawaiian potluck dinner, a silent auction, and a raffle. People who cannot attend in person may watch the performances live on YouTube.
The Hula School of Chicago is an organization run by Kumu June that teaches hula to children and adults. June is from Laupahoehoe and started studying hula in 1988. The classes offered at June’s school introduce people to the basics of hula and cover the history of the dance style. People can take the lessons in person or attend the hula courses virtually on Zoom. The academy also offers private hula classes and performs at local venues like nursing centers.
The benefit concert will be held on Sunday, October 1st from 3:00pm to 7:00pm. Tickets to the performance will cost $35 for adults and $25 for children. Those who want to watch the event virtually can pay $30. Organizations hosting benefit concerts similar to this may use flyer printing to promote their causes and events to locals.
