The next installment of an ongoing film festival is coming to Oak Park soon.
The Wabi Sabi Film Festival will present “Lives Well Lived,” a documentary about the lives of people between 75 years of age and 100, and the wisdom and wit they have accumulated over the years. The film is by Sky Bergman, and profiles older people who are living full lives. Together, the 40 people in the film have more than 3,000 years of experience, and share their personal stories and memories.
Bergman says her inspiration for the film is her grandmother, who was 99 when the project started, and is now 103. When Bergman began shooting, she started by filming her grandmother working out at the gym. Then she asked the older woman to share her wisdom, and that was the beginning. Bergman says that many older people are overlooked in our society, and yet, they have a lifetime of experience that would help guide the younger generations. She is particularly appreciative of the older people, since they have lived through some of the worst events in modern history, and are still optimistic. Wabi Sabi is a Japanese concept of appreciating impermanence.
“Lives Well Lived” will be screened at the Lake Theater Oakpark, on Lake Street, from10.00 am until 12.00 pm on January 24. Flyer printing can be used to create informative programs for events like this.
