A film crew was at Q-BBQ in Oak Park recently, shooting footage to be aired on “Food Paradise,” a popular Travel Channel program. “Food Paradise” says it visits must-try restaurants throughout the nation.
The show featuring Q-BBQ will be centered on comfort food, according to the network, and John Rot, who is a co-owner of the enterprise, said he believes barbecue generally fits well with the comfort food theme. He went on to say that the Q-BBQ's food is particularly well-suited to the show, since they've been winning awards for several years.
The Travel Channel said the episode featuring the Oak Park eatery is entitled “Cranked Up Comfort,” and will air in the fall. When the crew came through Chicago to film recently, they stopped in Oak Park because they'd read posts on social media raving about the food served at Q-BBQ. They also appreciated Q-BBQ's different approach to a classic form of comfort food. A business like this might throw a party when the episode airs, and use banner printing to decorate.
Q-BBQ takes all kinds of barbecue from around the country, and puts their own spin on it. Rot says they're less about smoking the meat than about barbecuing it, but didn't say which recipes the program will feature. Popular items on the menu include sandwiches made from burnt brisket ends, and pulled pork. Q-BBQ has been open in Oak Park since 2016.
