Everyone can benefit from knowing how to forage for edible plants, and an excursion will introduce the public to tasty flora and fungi available right in their hometown.
Professional forager Dave Odd will be sharing his expertise with a group of newbie foragers during a walk that will explore the neighborhood surrounding 1042 Pleasant Street in Oak Park, watching for wild food they can bring to the table. The function will also include a picnic-style meal that showcases foraged ingredients, providing living proof that there is wild food to be had, even in an urban environment.
The group will learn about at least 50 species, and it was noted that it will be the last excursion of the season. Since it will take place in late October, the participants can count on finding edible mushrooms and other fungi, and tickets for the excursion are $40 each. Separate meal tickets may be ordered for $28.16 each, and these include a beverage.
While a function like this may provide an introduction to a particular topic, it often leaves the attendees hungry to learn even more. Stationery printers will be able to prepare field guides and other identification tools, which will help the recipients to forage safely.
