For those readers who are too busy to come to the library, but still want to enjoy new titles, Oak Park Library has a solution. According to a February 12, 2015 news item, the library is adding more than 17,000 new audiobooks and e-Books to its collection of digital items. These electronic books are being made available through the library's partnership with eRead Illinois, which is run by the Illinois State Library.
David J. Seleb, who is the library's executive director, says the demand for digital books and other electronic materials continues to rise each year. In 2014, the library saw an increase of over 40% in the number of items that were downloaded; this included e-books, music, audiobooks, and movies. Seleb said that in 2014, there were 80,938 items digitally downloaded, up from 57,426 in 2013. Currently, the library owns 20,122 audiobooks and 44,160 digital books.
The new titles will become part of 3M Cloud Library, which can be downloaded to computers, tablets, smartphones, and other devices, such as the Kindle. Seleb noted that the reason the library is making multiple services available is because currently there's no single standard governing the ways in which the library can make digital materials available.
Library officials could consider working with brochure printers on a booklet for distribution to library patrons, listing the new services and perhaps giving a few of the newly-acquired titles.Get a Free Quote for Books
