The Village of Oak Park recently named Marynda ‘Mindy’ Agnew to the position of environmental sustainability manager, filling a position that has been vacant for nearly four years. Agnew has already taken up her duties.
Agnew worked with others to procure a grant to fund Oak Park Elementary Schools District 97 when the district wanted to create strategies for composting, reducing resources, and achieving a zero-waste result. She was also instrumental in getting Oak Park's composting program underway.
Most recently, the village has had Agnew under contract to help coordinate events, including green block parties. Agnes received a business administration bachelor's degree from Elmhurst College, and went on to study sustainable management at the graduate level at the University of Wisconsin.
Agnew revealed that she has a personal mission to encourage entire communities to work toward environmental sustainability, and is delighted to now be playing a pivotal role in that effort as a community official. She added she is looking forward to working with staff members, the village board, and residents to create programs and put them in place so the village will be even greener.
She will continue to pursue grants for various purposes, and work with Oak Park's Energy and Environment Commission. It will be her duty to oversee the village's electricity aggregation program.
When a change like this occurs, officials can work with a postcard printing company to create an announcement for residents.
