The public library in Oak Park is expanding its digital services and its collection of digital materials, and is adding three new options to patrons both in house and off site.
Library users can now take advantage of digital picture Books suitable for children, online video tutorials, and wireless printing.
For children, the library is providing TumbleBooks, which are talking, animated picture books suitable for kids from kindergarten through the fifth grade. Librarians and teachers both like TumbleBooks, because they are interactive, and have read aloud features that get children interested in reading by making it fun. Children at all reading levels can profit from using these books, which are available online via a browser, without the user having to download an app.
Video tutorials are provided by Lynda.com, which has approximately 3,000 tutorials available on such subjects as web design, career skills, software, and social networking, among others. These lessons are available to any Oak Park library patron, and can be accessed both at the library and off site.
Wireless printing enables library patrons to Print a web page or document remotely, no matter where they are. Customers who want something printed out need only choose the branch they want to send it to (the Main Library, Maze Branch, and Dole Branch offer this service) and upload the file. The library staff will hold the document until the end of the day.
