Arlington Heights to celebrate Mardi Gras
Locals who wish to enjoy Mardi Gras in Louisiana style will want to mark their calendars for an evening of entertainment by Creole Stomp.
This group plays a blend of R & B, blues, rock and jazz that melds into the traditional Creole music of the Mississippi Valley. The band promises to throw the quintessential Louisiana Cajun/Creole Honkytonk Party.
The four-piece band has been called the ‘Grateful Dead of Creole Music’ and is a major part of the Cajun/zydeco dance circuit. The basic four members are Dennis Stroughmatt (lead vocalist, fiddle, and accordion player), Greg Bigler on the bass (also a vocalist), Robert Russel on lead guitar, and Jimmy Willis on drums (also a vocalist).
To demonstrate the personality of the group, the band’s motto is ‘Are you going to finish that?’ The boys have been traveling around the U.S. and Canada playing park concerts and blues and folk festivals such as Tennessee’s Memphis Beale Street Zydeco Festival and Louisiana’s New Orleans Jazz Festival.
Fans will want to be sure to get promotional items such as T-shirts and CDs sometime during the evening.
The fun is scheduled to begin this Saturday, February 6, at 7:00 pm at the Metropolis Performing Arts Center, 111 Campbell St., Arlington Heights. Admission will be $30 and will include one beverage ticket and favors.
