Arlington Heights readies for Oktoberfest in September
Revelers in Arlington Heights may want to get out the lederhosen and steins, as it is never too early for the nearby upcoming Oktoberfest.
This year, calendars may look a little confusing, as the Palatine Oktoberfest will be held for three days in mid-September. The event will feature German food, beverages, live entertainment, and a family day.
Opening ceremonies will include the coronation of the Oktoberfest 2017 King and Queen, a short parade, a blessing on the event, and the ceremonial tapping of the keg.
Four German bands will be performing on the main stage. The first will be Patoma Band playing music from various regions of Germany. Phenix will add a modern flavor to German music. Die Muisikmeisters will be belting out traditional German, American, and Polish instrumentals and vocals. The Johnny Wagner band will play mostly polka music.
Arlington-Heights families will want to attend Family Day. The day will begin with the annual Oktoberfest Family Bike Ride. This will be followed by birdhouse construction activities, face painting, and local student performances. A K-9 dog unit demo will be put on by the Palatine Police Department along with a display of rescue and fire response vehicles.
The event will be September 15 through 17 across the way from Palatine Metra train station 150 W. Slade St. in Palatine. Hours will be from Friday from 5:00 until midnight, noon until midnight on Saturday, and Sunday from noon until 6:00 pm.
