Arlington Heights kids gear up for fall activities

Arlington Heights has three fall events coming in October focusing on family and Halloween fun.

The first event coming in early October will be the Autumn Harvest. This free family-oriented festival will have all-day entertainment including a petting zoo, face painting, crafts, and the fall traditional hayride. Families and friends will be participating in the scarecrow-building contest. Winners may take pictures to local print shops or stationery printers to be added to family calendars.

Our local swim center will fill plastic pumpkins with toys and candy and toss them into the pool for Pumpkin Splash. Local children then jump into the water and collect as many as they can. There will be four time slots for each age category. The little ones aged two to four will get to go into the pool at 4:00, 4:20, 6:00 and 6:20 pm. The kids aged five through seven will go at 4:10, 4:30, 6:10 and 6:30 pm. This event requires preregistration.

The last event will be the Trunk-or-Treat. Members of local organizations and businesses will have decorated vehicles at the Public Works building for children to collect candy.

Autumn Harvest will be this Saturday, October 6 from 11:00 am until 3:00 pm at North School Park at Evergreen Ave and E. Eastman Street.

The Pumpkin Splash will be October 19 at the Olympic Indoor Swim Center, 660 North Ridge, and the Trunk-or-Treat will be October 26 from 6:00 until 8:15 pm at 222 N. Ridge Ave.
