The Community Redevelopment Agency and the city of Orlando are collaborating on a project to enhance one of the most culturally and historically significant corridors in the downtown area.
Phase One of the Church Street Roadway Improvements project will focus on Church Street from the railroad tracks to Garland Avenue. It will transform the corridor into a type of festival street oriented towards pedestrians and supporting special events and daily activities.
Improvements during this phase will reconfigure the roadway into a flexible street with no curbs, and two travel lanes (each 11 feet wide) with a flush transition between access for pedestrians and vehicles. Features will also include designated loading zones, semi-pervious paving, and space for landscaping resulting in a streetscape that can adapt to various uses, such as outdoor dining, events, and increased safety for pedestrians.
The plan is to make improvements block by block. During this time roadways will be closed from curb to curb and there may be closures of some intersections. Sidewalks will remain open, and emergency access, mail delivery, recycling and trash collection, and essential services will not be interrupted.

Work will typically be carried out from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday, although occasional work on weekends or nights can be expected. Construction is expected to last about six months.
