The Orlando Utilities Commission (OUC) and the city of Orlando are currently undertaking the Summerlin Avenue Improvement Project to enhance the infrastructure in the community.
This will be a transformative project that will include enhancements to the stormwater, sewer, and portable water systems of the OUC on Summerlin Avenue from South Street to Marks Street. Approximately 6,800 feet of water mains will be installed, which will replace the existing infrastructure installed in 1938. Existing water mains and vales will be replaced, and new fire hydrants will be added to improve safety.
There will also be improvements to the gravity sewer along Summerlin Avenue that will include point repairs, lining, and replacements, together with upgrading sewer laterals and manholes for greater functionality.
The project incorporates additional improvements to utilities to deliver a full roadway rebuild, including new base materials and the restoration of either asphalt surfaces or brick pavers. It also prioritizes pedestrian safety, adding new pedestrian signals at key intersections and replacing crosswalks and curb ramps to meet ADA standards. Landscape work is included as well, with sod replacement and selective tree removal to create a cleaner, more cohesive streetscape.
